Child Branding and Consuming Kids

These AUTHENTIC home photos collaged together show just how much branding can affect a child’s life. I always thought I was one of the least influenced people but looking back at these photos I was easily mistaken.

Advertisers and companies target children from an early age to embed their brand. “Cradle to the Grave” shows  a baby filled with labels and logos that stick with them from early childhood for the rest of their lives.

  1. It’s so true. We always think that we are not affected by branding. But then we go out and buy the newest cell phones or ipods or when we were younger the newest toys. The advertisers really get to children at a young age. It’s scary!

  2. I agree, i think it’s hard to see how much the media affects us unless we take a step back and take a closer look. I also really liked how you used real pictures from your childhood to prove your point!

  3. It’s almost scary when you realize that in our own pictures from childhood that we are completely surrounded by branding. Over the years, ads have gone so far and are targeting younger and young audiences, for the exact reason of “cradle to grave”. What better way to start brand loyalty than pretty much get us hooked from birth, so we don’t know any better… or worse.

  4. Andy- I did this little research project about brand counting with my kiddos (not actually mine). Basically I made flash cards or famous people and such and added ones of brand logos in the mix… bet you can’t guess which ones they knew….
